These rooms are never used for critical listening and the Echo multi-room feature is sufficient for party purposes.Ĥ The lyrics feature is a lot more important than I expected. Based on this I have to challenge why I need to include the entertainment rooms with anything more than Echo Shows or Spots driving local amps. What a contrast to Sonos where every time they changed the UI is was nothing but frustration and anger at me for making things so hard! Also over Christmas all the nieces and nephews took turns telling Alexa what to play and treated the Echo Show as a karaoke machine with everybody singing along to the displayed lyrics. Instead she love that she can just tell Alexa to play some music at it happens and if something goes wrong it is just treated as a joke that Alexa is acting goofy. I expected it to be too techy or strange for my 85 year old mother for example to deal with voice control. The party areas will probably utilize 1 or 2 main sources while the critical listening areas might need many more source options.ģ The technophobes in the family really love Alexa. ![]() There is no point paying to include sync options in rooms that are remote from everything else to the point that sync does not matter.Ģ Not all sources need to be available in all rooms/zones. There is no reason to make sure all rooms can play in sync if that is only in the rooms used for parties so maybe the multi-room feature can be scaled back to just the party areas and areas that overlap acoustically. Some rooms are used for critical listening. Some of what I have learned includes:ġ There is no reason to have a uniform solution for all rooms/zones. I have been doing a lot of testing with different music options and that testing is pushing me in some surprising directions from what I expected. I don't think I'll push that on the family just yet. I haven't tried "let's chat" yet but have seen a few videos about it. When they ultimately let you down by changing something that is key to your setup, all you have to do is swap out the input for something else that still does what you need. Much better to go with more generic distribution paradigms like a multi-zone matrix amp and then plug in your Sonos Connect, Echo Dot, Chromcast Audio, Squeezebox, Audiotron, or whatever as sources to get the features of those platforms. ![]() This just further confirms my belief that buying into any ecosystem whether it be Sonos, Google, Amazon, Apple or whatever as the backbone of your music strategy is a mistake. ![]() I don't use Chromecast but I did go ahead and order one before they are gone just to preserve my ability to play with it at some point in the future if I want to. Click to expand.I agree since the line-out on an Echo Dot disables the internal speaker how is this not the same thing as the Echo Input? And because there are so many sales and bundles involving the Echo Dot it is usually available at a cheaper price then the Echo Input so what is the point?
